JJ Redick Hired As Los Angeles Lakers Head Coach
Former NBA Shooting Guard With No Prior Coaching Experience

The Los Angeles Lakers announced Monday the hiring of former NBA shooting guard JJ Redick as the team's new head coach. Redick, a 29th coach in franchise history, has no prior coaching experience in the league.
The hiring of Redick, a 15-year NBA veteran, comes as a surprise to many in the basketball world. Redick, who played for seven different teams during his playing career, has no known prior coaching aspirations.
Redick, 39, played in the NBA from 2006-2021. He retired as one of the league's all-time leaders in three-pointers made. Since his retirement, he has worked as an NBA analyst for ESPN.
The Lakers are coming off a disappointing season, finishing with a 33-49 record and missing the playoffs. The team fired head coach Frank Vogel after the season ended.
