Solar Activity Heating Up: Prepare for Solar Cycle 25

Scientists Predict Increased Solar Flares

Experts Issue Warnings, Prepare for Impacts

Get ready for a surge in solar activity as the Solar Cycle 25 Prediction Panel, an international group of experts co-sponsored by NASA and NOAA, has announced that solar minimum, a period of reduced activity, is over. The Sun has already emitted three strong solar flares, with more predicted in the coming months.

The first flare peaked at 2:01 AM ET on May 5, 2024, while the second reached its peak at 7:54 AM ET on the same day, according to data from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO). The flares were classified as X1.6 and X2.2, respectively, indicating their significant strength.

Scientists have developed a new model using data from SDO that has successfully predicted seven out of the eight solar flares that have occurred since the beginning of 2024. This model suggests that the Sun will continue to be active throughout Solar Cycle 25, with more strong flares expected in the coming months.
